Meet Mr. and Mrs. Dan Milam. They thoroughly enjoy the outdoors, especially backpacking, hiking and camping. Along with those activities you need to eat, so they took another one of their favorite things to do and that’s cooking and brought it outdoors. They especially like baking and cooking over an open fire using Camp Dutch Ovens. The very same meals you prepare in the kitchen at home can be transformed with minimal effort and cooked outside in a Dutch Oven.
This is an old skill that is missing from most peoples’ lives. Call it a survival skill – if you were without electricity or away from modern kitchen conveniences. When you’re campfire cooking or any other kind of outdoor cooking, you get to experiment with fire and who doesn’t like that! The whole idea of open fire cooking is mysterious and primal and that that is half the fun.
Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Group is the local chapter of the International Dutch Oven Society serving Charlotte and the Central Piedmont area of North Carolina. This chapter meets several times a year for a Dutch Oven Gathering or DOG as it is often called. This is a chance to meet other Dutch Oven cooks, enjoy the fellowship of others, and have a nice meal.
Guests are always welcome!
